I knew it was coming. He'd been giving me updates on finding a ring, getting it sized and when it was done. So when he "secretly" met up with his brother on Friday night to get the ring, I figured it had to be yesterday or today that it would happen.
After taking a nice leisurely walk a couple blocks south, then east and back, we stopped at Jaoquin Park not too far from where we live. We got on the swings and I was really talkative while he was unusually mellow. This has to be it, I thought, he's going to do it tonight! I just tried to keep a conversation going, like I didn't suspect anything. He pushed me on the swings for a little bit, trying to make me laugh, making sure I was having a fun time. Then he slowed me down and took my hand. We walked over to a more secluded part of the park (there were people playing on the playground) and laid in the grass to look at the stars. Now, stargazing is pretty much my favorite thing to do in the summer. It makes me want to contemplate life and consider the eternities. Anyway, we counted satellites and quoted the Lion King "they're fireflies, stuck in that dark bluish-black thing!" "Oh, I thought they were great balls of gas, billions of miles away!" "I was once told the kings of the past lived up there," etc. etc. Then Alex saw a shooting star. I asked if he made a wish, and he said yes. He wouldn't tell me what it was, but that if I saw one I'd have to tell him (jerk.) After some time, he sat up and hovered over me to say "Do you want to know what I wished for?"
"Yes," I responded.
"I wished that you would marry me." He got on one knee and said, "would you?"
THIS WAS THE MOMENT! The one I'd been waiting for my whole life! Still lying on the ground, I laughed, almost to tears and covered my face. Then I stopped, looked at him, and realized I still needed to answer his very important question. "Yes" I said.
I sat up and we kissed a nice, long kiss. I wished it wasn't dark so I could look at the ring as it went on my finger, but really, that didn't matter, because I was officially engaged to the one I loved! :)
YAAAAAAY! Congrats! Holy cow that was romantic. Im so happy for you!
