Same name. Same size. Same kind of situation. My mother's nurse is the sweetest woman ever. From the beginning, she and my mom hit it right off!
This nurse is also fighting cancer, breast cancer. She is bald and always wears a bandanna with pearl earrings, just like my momma. Today I was at the hospital while my mom got her chemo and I observed and compared the two women. They're both very pretty, it's of the most natural beauty since both don't have the fancy hair or wear much make up, just mascara on what's left of their eyelashes. They're both the same age (in their early 50s) and the same height, and they have the same skinny type of body that withholds a strong personality.
The nurse was always asking how my mom was doing, I mean, she did that for every other patient in the room too... but there was that special friendly air as she spoke to my mom. It was sweet. After the drip, the nurse had to change my mom's port (the mechanism hooked straight into her arteries where her chemo, TPN, and fluid drips in). The last time her port was changed, it was a different nurse and the way she did it hurt my mom. So, this time the usual nurse (my mom's twin) gave her a little drug to help soothe that area so it wouldn't hurt. She said it may sting a little, but she did it so carefully that my mom said she couldn't feel it one bit. There was also no pain afterward. Before my mom left, she had to hug her twin, just like she always does.
I am so thankful that my mom has such a great nurse who really shows she cares for her, who knows what it's like to be battling such a strong force and how important it is to have people who love you always surrounding you. ♥
Hello sweet Erin! This is your favorite cousin Shannon :) I found your blog through your sisters, and Im so glad that I did! I think about your mom and your family constantly, so Im glad you post what is going on, so I know what is going on.
ReplyDeleteThis post made me teary eyed. I am SO glad your mom has a nurse who loves her and takes good care of her. Im sure its easy for nurses to tune out the sadness, and want to just get in and out of the room. It takes a special person to go out of their way to make her feel comfortable.
In fact, you have inspired a blog Im going to write :)
Thanks for the update and hope youre doing well! Love you!
Thanks for the updates Erin!!
