I Don't Wanna Be

The popular song by Gavin Degraw really hit me on my way home from school today.
"I don't wanna be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do is think of me and have peace of mind.
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I gotta do or who I'm supposed to be.
I don't wanna be anything other than ME."
The tone of the song doesn't fit the message very well, so I hadn't really listened to the words I was singing until today. How could I miss it? It has a great message, saying that we need to be ourselves, and no one else.

This past weekend was General Conference! It was the first time in my whole life that I've felt like I've gotten enough out of it to see the need to change. The spirit bore witness to me that what the prophet and apostles said were directed toward me. So many sweet messages helped me to realize the things I need to work on in life, but also told me the things I'm doing okay on. Here are just a couple things I learned.
--A big thing is service. Service doesn't need to be an extravagant act, but rather a simple act of kindness. Those simple acts are like flecks of gold, that will gradually add up and be precious blessings toward you.
-- Another thing that stuck out to me was the story of Hugh B. Brown who had a current bush that he needed to prune. He told the bush "I am the gardener, and I will make you what I want you to be." This statement may also be presented as if God was telling US this. We may not understand why we go through certain trials or why we don't get an answer to a prayer as soon as we'd like, but through patience, we will become what God wants us to be. He wants us to be our individual selves, which is why we are all tested in different ways. :)

My mom is doing well. Even with her platelets down to 29,000, last Friday she had chemo done. We are not sure how her body is reacting to it, whether it's doing its job or not, but we are just grateful that she's still here with us. God is truly watching over her. :)
