Also known as the color festival, it is the celebration of spring in India. I went to a local celebration, so it wasn't all that big, but it was a whole lot of fun! With bags of colored powder, kind of like tempera paint, we threw it at people. I could see clouds of color passing in front of my face, people rubbing it in others' hair, and smacking it in people's arms or hinds-quarters. The stuff tastes nasty by the way, so eventually we all learned to force our mouths shut while running around, throwing color, and having a grand ol' time.
