At 111 pounds, my mom had her G-tube procedure done. Beforehand, they gave her some platelets since they were still pretty low, which is good because now she's able to start the new chemo treatment on Friday. The procedure went well, but it's left my mom in pain. On a scale from 0 to 10, 0 being good and 10 being bad, she said she's at a 7. She slouches like she did after her first surgery, and she can't rotate at her waist because it hurts too much.
Today, while she was getting her blood pressure taken I watched her. She looked like a sad, innocent child sitting in that chair. She's so little! But as I watched her get her port changed, I could tell she's gotten more used to the routine. What a trooper!
I also witnessed someone having a reaction to their chemo today. It was really scary! This old woman was sitting next to me, shivering, whimpering... and immediately the nurses who were helping other patients (including my mom) ran over to her, got her some Benadryl and fluids, lots of blankets, and checked her vitals. They even had to put her on oxygen... but within just a few moments, she had calmed down and was feeling better.
My mom had a reaction to her chemo in the beginning of this year. I can't imagine how I'd feel watching my mom go through that, because it was bad enough just watching a stranger!
